Original coloured aluminium panel from the Prague Metro. These iconic Pop Art-style moulded tiles were created in the 1970s by Czech architect, urban planner, designer, and painter Jaroslav Otruba (1916–2007). In 1960, Otruba became chief designer at the State Institute of Transportation Design, before moving to the newly established Metroprojekt in 1970 as lead architect responsible for the planning and construction of Lines A and C.
The original panels were produced specifically to clad the stations on Line A, with the distinctive colour scheme created by graphic artist Jiří Rathouský. The alternating arrangement of concave and convex tiles was engineered to diffuse sound waves.
This panel is finished in golden yellow spray paint and is in very good original condition. A subtle patina is visible in the photographs.
